After months of anticipation, the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro finally went on sale on Friday.
Many early buyers have been eager to set up their new smartphone, but have encountered issues with the NHS Covid-19 app.
The issue means that some users have been shown an error message when trying the app on their new iPhone.
The error message reads: “Unfortunately, you can’t run this app. This could be due to a restriction in your settings, or another app on your phone using the same technology and stopping this app from working.”
Reports on social media indicate that the issue arises when apps are transferred from older iPhones via an iCloud Backup.
Thankfully, there’s a very simple fix for the issue.
The NHS explained: “If you have recently upgraded to an iPhone 12 or iPhone 12 Pro, and chosen to transfer your apps over, this prompt will not appear - you may see a message saying "Unfortunately, you cannot run this app".
“This is because the upgrade does not keep your Exposure Notification settings. You will need to manually turn on Exposure Notifications in your phone settings for the app to work.”
To manually turn on Exposure Notifications, simply go to Settings, and tap Exposure Notifcations, then Allow Notifications.
Ensure Active Region is set as ‘England and Wales’ and ‘Department for Health and Social Care.’
The NHS added: “If you are still having difficulty turning on Exposure Notifications using the above instructions following a recent phone upgrade, please try reinstalling the NHS COVID-19 app.”
