iPhone 12 could be first Apple smartphone with no headphones or charging plug in the box

It’s one of the most eagerly anticipated smartphones of 2020, and now new rumours indicate that the iPhone 12 may not include free headphones or a charging plug.

The rumour comes from MacRumors, which spotted hints in the iOS 14.2 software code.

MacRumors explained: “In iOS 14 and earlier versions of iOS, there's a mention of reducing exposure to RF energy by using the ‘supplied headphones,’ which is the same wording that Apple has used for years now.

“In iOS 14.2, this wording has been tweaked to say just ‘headphones,’ removing the ‘supplied’ part of this statement.

“All prior mentions of headphones have included ‘supplied,’ and the deliberate elimination of the word in the new code strongly suggests Apple has no plans to ‘supply’ headphones with the upcoming ‌iPhone 12‌ models.”

Other experts suggest that Apple may get rid of the free headphones with the iPhone 12 to encourage customers to buy AirPods.

Meanwhile, there have also been rumours that Apple is axing the power adapter from the iPhone 12 box, meaning customers will only get the phone and a USB-C to Lightning cable.

MacRumors added: “The removal of the power adapter was all but confirmed when Apple released the Apple Watch Series 6 models without a power adapter, but until now, we've heard little else about the potential removal of the EarPods.”

Unfortunately, the launch date for the iPhone 12 remains a mystery.

Many Apple fans had hoped to see the new smartphone at Apple’s Time Flies event earlier this month, but were left wanting.

Instead, rumours indicate that Apple could be preparing for an October launch event - watch this space!
