The second day of Round One of the NCAA Tournament starts off with a bang, as #10 Iowa travels to Columbus to take on #7 Cincinnati. It’s going to be a raucous home crowd for the in-state Bearcats, but the Hawkeyes won’t be pushed around after a tough season in the Big Ten.

#10 Iowa

After a fantastic start to the season, full of great wins and quite a few buzzer-beaters, the Iowa Hawkeyes struggled heavily down the stretch, losing five of their last six to finish the year with a 22-11 record and a bad loss to Michigan in the quarterfinal of the Big Ten Tournament. Iowa is still part of March Madness, and maybe the craziness of the NCAA Tournament is exactly what the Hawkeyes need to recapture that early magic that helped them win so many close games. In forwards Tyler Cook and Luka Garza as well as guard Jordan Bohannon they have the talent, and in senior Nicholas Baer they have the experience and leadership. Recent results don’t give the Hawkeyes much hope in their first tournament appearance in three years, but they’ve already proven this season that they are capable of doing a lot of unexpected things.

#7 Cincinnati

The Cincinnati Bearcats arrive in the NCAA Tournament for the ninth consecutive year full of confidence after a strong regular season that ended with eight wins in the last 10 games, the AAC Tournament title and a 28-6 overall record. Built on a strong, physical defense and led by an outstanding junior guard in Jarron Cumberland, who had a 33-point, 8-rebound performance in the AAC Tournament final against Houston, the Bearcats are hoping for at least a trip to the second round, and maybe their first Sweet Sixteen appearance since 2012.
