Why ULM Will Win
Will Iowa be able to beat Iowa State twice?
It’s sandwich time for the Cyclones with the Big 12 opener at Baylor coming up next, and last week’s gut-wrenching loss to Iowa still too fresh. Over the last five years, Iowa State has lost four times in the game after facing the Hawkeyes, and ULM certainly isn’t going to be fazed by going on the road.
The Warhawks have had two weeks off after the rough 45-44 overtime loss at Florida State, and they’ve got the offense and pop to give the Cyclones a huge push.
The offensive line has done a great job of keeping defenses out of the backfield, and Caleb Evans is every bit as good as most of the quarterbacks the Cyclone defense will face. On the other side, Iowa State hasn’t shown the pop in the passing game to keep up if the Warhawks get going early.
Why Iowa State Will Win
The Cyclone defensive front has been great so far.
It’s not doing too much to get into the backfield, but it hasn’t been bad at getting to the quarterback. The run defense didn’t give up a thing in the opener against Northern Iowa, and it stuffed Iowa all game long, holding the ground attack to just three yards per carry and 112 yards.
No, Iowa State doesn’t have a whole lot of pop or explosion quite yet, but it should be able to keep the chains moving against a ULM defense that’s awful on third downs and gives up 454 yards per game. There’s absolutely no Warhawk pass rush to worry about – Brock Purdy should have all the time he needs to work.

What’s Going To Happen
Iowa State will be in for way too much of a fight against the Warhawk offense, particularly the ground game.
ULM really is just that dangerous, and the Cyclones really don’t have the offense yet to pull away and make this easy. Iowa State will win, but it’ll take yet another four quarter fight with way too much drama in the end.
