Apple is releasing the second version of iOS 13, its major new software update for iPhones.
And, for the first time, the iPad will finally get an update – the week after the iPhone.
iOS 13 was officially released days ago, with a download that was pushed out to iPhone users.
But even at that time, Apple admitted the update wasn't finished. It would not include some major features, it said, and the software included a variety of bugs that could hit users at any moment.
As such, Apple promised then that it would soon release yet another update, in the form of iOS 13.1. That would fix those bugs and bring back the missing features, it said.
It also said that would also bring the software to the iPad. Usually, Apple releases the new version of iOS for its tablet and phone at the same time, but that was also delayed.
This year is the first time Apple officially split the two different platforms apart, creating iPadOS as distinct from iOS for iPhone. That presumably helped Apple delay, since the two are now separate products.
It initially said iOS 13.1 and iPadOS would arrive on 30 September. It appears it has been finished earlier than expected, and will arrive later today – most likely around 6pm UK time or 10am local pacific time.
It will be available to download as normal, by heading to the Settings app, clicking "general" and choosing the software update version. iPhones can also update themselves automatically, meaning that it will prompt a user to update overnight if they do not do so manually.
