Ioan Gruffudd 's wife Alice Evans says her children found out he'd secretly filed for divorce after reading an online report.
Their 13-year marriage is reaching its conclusion after it was reported that the 47-year-old actor filed documents at the Los Angeles Superior Court.
What's more, his decision to end their marriage appears to be news to Alice, who claimed she had no idea until reading about it online.
And now Alice, 49, has revealed that the kids were also left in the dark by the news.
The pair share daughters Ella, 11, and seven-year-old Elsie.
Alice shared a news report about Ioan filing for divorce on her Instagram and wrote: "Oh, ok. Thanks for letting me know I guess."
Naturally, concerned fans flocked to the comments section to send their well wishes to the mum-of-two, which saw her reveal new details of the "surprise" split.
"Thinking of you and your kids," wrote one fan, before Alice responded: "Me too. They didn't even know. I am with Ella and we both saw it together.
"She didn't think it was real. She thought it was just 'MORE fighting?' I said no honey I'm afraid this is it."
Alice went on to add that she still has "no answers" about his decision to file for divorce.
Another fan wrote: "Whether this is real or fake news, I support you and your family."
To which Alice replied: "Sadly it's real. I just opened the paper and read that I was getting divorced. Have to say, he always was a bit of a charmer."
In another exchange with a fan, Alice admitted she had hope that their relationship would overcome this road bump.
"When does one ever know? Don't you still hope as long as hope is there? I thought we were in this together and would announce together," she wrote.
She continued: "It's ok to be shocked. It's ok to share that I'm hurt Nobody had to read it. But there are some that might want to know. And others who might want to know.
"And others who might feel a teeny bit better about the painful things that have been done to them. Peace," she added.
Adding to the mystery, Alice revealed that Ioan even has her Twitter password for reasons unknown.
She wrote: "Still haven't heard. And he has Elsie. And my Twitter password. Nothing weird or creepy about that right?"
The Mirror has contacted Ioan's reps for comment.
Liar star Ioan left his wife in January, with Alice claiming he "no longer loves her".
She shared the news in a since deleted tweet, in which she explained what Ioan had said as a reason for wanting to split.
She wrote at the time: "Sad news. My beloved husband/soulmate of 20 years, Ioan Gruffudd, has announced he is to leave his family, starting next week.
"Me and our young daughters girls are very confused and sad. We haven’t been given a reason except that he ‘no longer loves me.’ I’m so sorry."
They have been married since 2007 and have two daughters, Ella, 11, and Elsie, seven, after meeting on the set of 102 Dalmations in 2000.
Speaking about his decision, Ioan said: "Look, as I said before, it's an extremely difficult time for the family.
"Our thoughts are with our children obviously right now and I'd really respect a little bit of privacy right now, thank you."
