Ioan Gruffudd's ITV drama Liar is back for a second series and it starts soon

Liar - the smash hit ITV drama starring Ioan Gruffudd and Joanne Froggat - returns to TV screens next month.

The first series of the show aired in 2017 and was six episodes of twists and turns before Gruffudd's Andrew Earlham was revealed as a serial rapist and ended up dead in the final moments of the show.

The finale drew 9.1m viewers and it's likely viewers will be drawn back to the drama, which proved to be real 'water cooler TV.'

ITV has confirmed on its Facebook page that Liar will return in March, but no exact date has been released yet. We will add that here when it's confirmed.

Ioan Gruffudd as evil Andrew Earlham (ITV)

Series two picks up three weeks after an arrest warrant was issued for Earlham's arrest for the sexual assault of 19 women.

The fact that the story looks into Andrew Earlham's past and the events leading to his murder means that the Welsh actor was able to return to the hit show.

The first series followed a 'did-he-or-didn't-he' format and took the viewer through twists and turns over whether he raped Froggatt's character, Laura.

Now it looks like Laura is one of the prime candidates to go down for Earlham's murder.

Joining Froggatt and Gruffudd for this final chapter are a number of new characters, including Katherine Kelly (Cheat, Mr Selfridge, The Night Manager) as DI Karen Renton who leads the team to investigate Earlham's past.

Howard Charles (The Widow, Musketeers) plays Carl Peterson and Amy Nuttall (Downton Abbey, My Fair Lady) is Winnie Peterson.
