Invicta FC’s Phoenix Series is back with a second installment of a one-night, eight-woman tournament.
Promotion officials announced Monday morning that Invicta Phoenix Series 2 will take place Friday, Sept. 6 at Memorial Hall in Kansas City, Kan. The event will stream on UFC Fight Pass at 8 p.m. ET.
The sophomore edition of the series will feature eight 125-pound combatants. The list includes a pair of UFC veterans, a Dana White’s Contender Series alumnus, and a handful of Invicta notables.
The tournament will carry the same formatting as the premiere edition, with the winning athlete three fights in one night. The quarterfinal and semifinal bouts of the tournament will consist of one, five-minute round. The finals will consist of one, five-minute round. The opening semifinal round matchups will be drawn at random.
UFC veterans DeAnna Bennett (10-5-1) and Milana Dudieva (12-8) will enter the tournament and look to turn around their recent bad luck. Fresh off of an appearance on DWCS, Brazil’s Marilia Santos (10-3) will attempt to get back into the win column, following a loss that was highly questionable in the eyes of many.
Also entering the tournament, Strikeforce challengers veteran Maiju Suotam (8-4) will join top Brazilian prospect Daiana Torquato (9-3), who is riding a 7-fight winning streak. Additional participants include Invicta veterans Cheri Muraski (6-2), Liz Tracy (5-3), and Miranda Maverick (5-2).
Pairings for the tournament will be announced at a later date.
In addition to the eight-woman tournament lineup, two non-tournament 125-pound bouts were also announced for the card. Alex Conners (5-3) will take on DWCS veteran Mariya Agapova (6-1), and newcomers Josee Storts (1-0) will battle Helen Lucero (0-0) at 125 pounds.
Phoenix Series 1 was held in May 2019 and featured eight strawweight fighters. After she defeated Manjit Kolekar and Juliana Lima in one-round bouts, now-UFC fighter Brianna Van Buren took home the crown when she submitted Kailin Curran in the tournament finals.
