FIRST Minister Nicola Sturgeon has officially opened a rail freight facility.
Highland Spring Group’s site in Blackford, Perthshire is aimed at boosting the bottled water producer’s efforts to reach net zero by 2040.
It is adjacent to the company’s main bottling plant and remove 10 million lorry miles from the country’s roads in the first ten years of operation.
Opening the facility yesterday, the First Minister said: “Rail freight is intrinsic to the Scottish economy, it supports the supply chain and serves a broad range of sectors, and is good for society and our environment. That’s why the Scottish Government invested £4.47m in this project through a Freight Facilities Grant.”
The facility has been in development for 10 years, also in partnership with Transport Scotland and Network Rail.
