Investigations continue after man died from head injuries at factory

An infrastructure firm has issued a tribute after a Nottinghamshire man died from a head injury while at work.

Investigations are taking place after Lee Perry, of Williams Street in Newark, died at the Balfour Beatty Ground Engineering in Long Bennington, Lincolnshire.

The site is used to pre-cast piles which are used in construction projects, Lincolnshire Live reports.

Mr Perry, 36, died from a head injury at the site and the Health and Safety  Executive (HSE) is now investigating alongside Lincolnshire Police.

The site had been closed while authorities investigated his death, and although the facility re-opened this week, the investigation is still ongoing.

An inquest into his death opened on Wednesday, October 30.

A spokesperson for Balfour Beatty confirmed someone had "tragically" died at the site.

"A serious incident occurred at our Bottesford pre-cast piling facility in Nottinghamshire in the early hours of the morning of October 16, 2019," she said.

"As a result of the incident, a colleague has tragically lost their life.

"Our deepest sympathies are with our colleague’s family, friends and co-workers at this time.

"To assist the authorities with their investigation, the facility was temporarily closed. Our employees have since returned to the facility, which is expected to become fully operational this week. As the investigation remains ongoing, it would be inappropriate to comment further."

A Lincolnshire Police spokesperson confirmed it is investigating Mr Perry's death with the HSE.

"We are investigating, in conjunction with the Health and Safety Executive, the death of a man in his 30s at the Balfour Beatty Ground Engineering site, Roseland Business Park, Long Bennington, on October 16," he said.

"We had attended following a call received at 2.59am that day.

"Our investigation continues."

A spokesperson for the HSE said: "HSE is jointly investigating with Lincolnshire Police who retain primacy at this time."
