Investigation under way after woman dies in Seaham house fire

An investigation is under way after a woman died in a County Durham house fire.

Firefighters were called to a report of a fire at a house on Bethune Avenue, in Seaham, at approximately 5.40am on Thursday.

Crews from Seaham and Peterlee attended and breathing apparatus crews went into the house and found a woman, who sadly died at the scene.

No one else was injured or rescued from the property and the cause of the fire is not thought to be suspicious.

County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service has now launched an investigation to establish the cause of the fire.

Group manager Colin Davis said: “Our thoughts and condolences are with the woman’s family and friends at this time.

“Our fire investigation team is now working to ascertain the exact cause of the fire.”
