Investigation under way after suspected arson attack on a caravan in Newcastle

Police are investigating a suspected arson attack on a caravan in Newcastle.

Emergency services were called to the scene in Fawdon just after 9pm on Sunday night after the blaze was reported.

The caravan, was in a car park just off Horsley Court and Dorrington Road when it is believed someone started the fire deliberately.

Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service sent crews from West Denton and Gosforth to the scene where they requested support from Northumbria Police.

A spokeswoman for the force said: "Shortly after 9.10pm yesterday (Sunday) we received a report of a caravan fire in Horsley Court, Fawdon.

"Officers attended the scene and a crew from Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service were already in attendance distinguishing the fire.

"An investigation has been launched and inquiries into the cause of the fire are ongoing but at this stage it is being treated as arson.

"Anyone with any information is asked to contact police via 101 and quote reference number 1054 28/10/19."
