Investigation under way after man suffers multiple injuries in fall at Jesmond building site

A health and safety investigation has been launched after a man fell at a building site in Jesmond.

Paramedics and the Great North Air Ambulance(GNAAS) were called to the Tolent building site, opposite the Royal Grammar School on Eskdale Terrace, on Wednesday morning.

Medical teams treated the man at the scene who had suffered multiple injuries in a fall at around 11.30am.

The man was taken by ambulance to the Royal Victoria Infirmary(RVI) in Newcastle.

It is believed he had fallen onto a roof.

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE), which investigates workplace accidents, said it visited the construction site on Thursday.

A HSE spokesperson added: "HSE are continuing to investigate the incident. Due to this being a live investigation, we are unable to comment further at this time."

A spokesperson for Tolent Construction said: "Until we receive the outcome of the investigation, we are unable to comment further on this matter."

The GNAAS landed their helicopter on the school field but the fall took place at the luxury apartment development across the road.
