Investigation under way after huge flames engulf pub in Seahouses

An investigation has been launched after a serious fire at a Northumberland pub.

Emergency services were called out to the scene in Seahouses in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

Footage taken in the middle of the night shows huge flames engulfing The Schooner Inn pub on North Street.

At one point, all of Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service resources were in attendance along with the Aerial Platform Ladder from Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service.

The fire was extinguished shortly before 7am but investigators remain on scene.

A joint investigation with Northumbria Police will now take place.

A spokeswoman for Northumberland Fire Service said: "We were called at 1.28am and sent crews from Seahouses, Belford and Alnwick.

"Later we sent another appliance from Alnwick and one from Berwick and we also requested assistance of Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service for their Aerial Platform Ladder.

"The fire was in a two story building on the corner of North Street and Taylor Street.

"An investigation is ongoing."
