Investigation under way after fire breaks out at Sunderland factory

An investigation has been launched after a fire broke out at a Sunderland factory.

Emergency services were called to West Quay Road on Friday morning after the blaze broke out at the Komatsu factory, ChronicleLive understands.

Crews from three stations attended and had the fire under control shortly before 11am.

One crew remains at the scene on Thursday afternoon while the cause of the fire is being investigated.

A spokesperson for Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service said: "At 9.11am we received a report of a fire in a factory.

"Crews from Marley Park, Sunderland Central and Farringdon stations attended and the incident was concluded by 10.53am, although one crew remains on the scene.

"The cause of the fire is under investigation.”
