Indianapolis police have initiated an investigation into an altercation involving an NBA player that occurred at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. The incident took place during a game between the Milwaukee Bucks and the Indiana Pacers, where Bucks guard Patrick Beverley threw a ball at a fan in the final minutes of the match.

According to a news release by the police department, the case has been handed over to detectives who are currently looking into the matter. The authorities are treating the accusations seriously and will present their findings to the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office upon the conclusion of the investigation.

Video footage captured Beverley sitting on the bench and tossing a ball into the stands, hitting a fan in the head. After the ball was thrown back to him by a different spectator, Beverley retaliated by throwing it back at that individual.

Following the incident, Beverley addressed his actions on his podcast, acknowledging that his behavior was unacceptable. He expressed regret over the situation and emphasized the need to improve his conduct in the future.

Despite the altercation, Beverley praised the overall atmosphere at Gainbridge Fieldhouse during the game, noting that it was marred by only a few fans who crossed the line. The Pacers emerged victorious with a 120-98 win over the Bucks, eliminating Milwaukee from the playoffs.

In a post-game interview, Bucks coach Doc Rivers condemned Beverley's actions, stating that they did not align with the team's values. Rivers acknowledged the emotional nature of the game but emphasized the importance of maintaining composure in such situations.

Following the game, Beverley also faced criticism for his interaction with a journalist in the locker room. He refused to answer questions from the reporter, citing her lack of subscription to his podcast as the reason for his behavior.

On his podcast, Beverley clarified that his request for reporters to subscribe to his podcast had been a longstanding practice. He expressed regret over any perceived disrespect towards the journalist and acknowledged that his actions were not appropriate.

The investigation into the altercation at Gainbridge Fieldhouse remains ongoing, with authorities working to gather all relevant information before presenting the case for further review.
