Investigation launched into spate of deliberate fires in Glasgow

An investigation has been launched into a spate of deliberate fires at telecommunications sites in Glasgow.

Police Scotland is carrying out inquiries after a fibre underground chamber in Threestone Hill and a copper cabling underground chamber in Croftspar Drive at Springboig Avenue were damaged, after someone deliberately set fires within.

The incidents happened between midnight on Thursday, April 23 and 1am on Friday, April 24. The chamber at Croftspar Drive was then set alight again between 2am on Friday, April 24 and 8am on Saturday, April 25.

Detective Sergeant Lisa MacDonald said: "We believe these three incident are linked.  Neither of these chambers are 5G sites.

"Not only is fire-raising dangerous, this has caused severe disruption to several hundred businesses and home customers, who during these challenging times will be relying on virtual technology and the phone to keep in contact with customers, family and friends.

"Anyone who knows who is responsible, should call Police Scotland on 101 quoting  0726 of 24 April.’"
