Investigation launched into foul smell that's been dogging Droylsden and Audenshaw for days

An investigation has been launched into what is causing a horrendous stench in Droylsden and Audenshaw.

A number of residents have taken to social media about a foul smell that has been plaguing the areas for days.

It is so bad that some people say they wrongly assumed their pets had gone to the toilet somewhere in their homes, before realising it was coming from outside.

Residents have also reported noticing the unfortunate smell in Ashton and Gorton

Now Tameside council has confirmed that it is investigating the cause of the pong, and is asking anyone with information to get in touch.

A Tameside Council spokesman said: “We have received a handful of complaints over the last day or two and are investigating the smell.

"If anyone has any information or wishes to contact us about the matter, we would ask them to email us at publicprotection-es@tameside.gov.uk”

It's not the first time an area of Greater Manchester has been affected by an unpleasant odour.

In the past, water treatment plants, stagnant water underneath buildings and burst sewage pipes have all ended up being the source of some pretty revolting smells.
