Investigation launched after woman raped in Oldham in early hours

An investigation is underway after a woman was raped in Oldham.

Police were called to Huddersfield Road in the early hours of Friday morning.

A scene is currently in place on Barry Street, and a small area of woodland opposite St James Church has been taped off.

The victim, who is in her 30s, is being supported by specially-trained officers.

GMP said in a statement: "Shortly before 2.35am on Friday, police were called to Huddersfield Road in Oldham to reports that a woman had been raped.

"There is a scene in place on Barry Street while investigation work is carried out and officers are currently supporting the woman in her 30s.

"Enquiries are ongoing."

The scene is just metres away from a busy stretch of the A62 Huddersfield Road.

It also backs onto a Tesco petrol station, but it is concealed by a number of trees and fencing.
