An investigation is underway after a woman was raped near a busy main road in Blackley.
Police were called to an area of woodland near Victoria Avenue shortly after 1.40pm on Friday to reports that a woman had been raped.
A 53-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of rape and remains in police custody for questioning.
The victim, whose age is unknown, is currently being provided with support from specially trained officers.
A police cordon remained next to an area of woodland on Friday afternoon whilst detectives searched for evidence.
Numerous police cars and a crime scene investigation team were called to the scene.
GMP say they have increased patrols in the area for reassurance and anybody who has concerns is encouraged to approach one of the officers on patrol.
Enquiries are still ongoing.
