Investigation launched after video of Tesco worker apparently kicking man emerges

Supermarket bosses have launched an investigation after a video emerged of a Tesco worker apparently kicking a man outside a Tyneside store.

The clip, which has been shared hundreds of times on social media, appears to show an employee, dressed in the retail giant's blue uniform, lay into a member of the public as he lies cowering on the ground.

Other staff members can be seen and heard attempting to stop their colleague on the video, which was posted on Facebook.

The author of the original post claims the footage was shot in Newcastle city centre.

He told ChronicleLive it was filmed by a relative at around 7.20pm on Wednesday.

The shop worker's actions have been condemned by Facebook users in online comments.

And after ChronicleLive made Tesco aware of the video, bosses at the firm said they had launched an investigation to find out what went on at the shop.

A spokesman said: "We are aware of the incident at our store and are currently investigating.”

A Northumbria Police spokeswoman said the incident had not been reported.
