Investigation launched after two cars set on fire at Lowdham Grange

An investigation has been launched after two cars were set on fire at Lowdham Grange prison.

Three fire crews were called to the prison, in Old Epperstone Road, at around 2am on May 14.

According to Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue, two cars were "well alight".

A spokesman for the service said: "Crews from Bingham, Arnold and Carlton were called at 2.16am to the scene of a fire in a car park on Old Epperstone Road, Lowdham.

" Two cars were found to be well alight. Firefighters used two hose reels to extinguish both vehicles. Firefighters had dealt with the incident by 2.50am.

"An investigation into the cause of the fire has been launched."

Nottinghamshire Police was also called about the incident.

A police spokesman said an investigation was underway to establish the cause of the fire.

Mark Hanson, Serco Prison Director at HMP Lowdham Grange said: “We confirm two cars have been damaged in what appears to be an arson attack in the car park outside the prison.   No one was hurt and the fire brigade arrived to put out the fire. 

"The police are now investigating the incident.”
