Investigation launched after puppy is found dead in burn near Wishaw

The Scottish SPCA is appealing for information after a puppy was found dead in a burn in Bonkle.

Scotland’s animal welfare charity was alerted to the French bulldog pup after a member of the public spotted it floating in the water on 24 March.

Scottish SPCA inspector Heather Lawson said: “We’ve estimated the puppy was between five and eight weeks old.

“The caller found the female dog in the burn near Murdostoun Road in Bonkle.

“We don’t think she had been in the water long.

“We are unable to determine how the puppy died and whether she was dead before she was put in the burn.

“We are appealing to members of the public to see if they can shed any light on how the puppy came to be found in these circumstances.

“If anyone can help, we would urge them to contact our confidential animal helpline on 03000 999 999.”
