A probe has been launched after a police car reportedly hit the body of a man found dead on a motorway this morning.
Greater Manchester cops responded to reports of a body close to junction two of the M67, in Denton, at 7am on Saturday.
Emergency services rushed to attend but the man was pronounced dead at the scene, Manchester Evening News reports.
Police watchdog, the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC), confirmed this afternoon an investigation has been launched into how GMP responded to the incident.
The IOPC said a cop car is thought to have been "one of several" which hit the man's body.
A spokesperson for the IOPC said: "We attended an incident on the M67, where a man was sadly found dead this morning.
"We were made aware by GMP due to the fact a police vehicle was one of several believed to have been involved in a collision with the man.
"Investigators attended the scene and post-incident procedures and we have requested further information from the force which we will assess to determine what further action may be required."
GMP confirmed a body had been found on the motorway earlier today.
Police remain at the scene and enquiries into the incident are ongoing.
A GMP spokesperson said: "Police were called around 7am today (December 18) to a report of a body being found on the M67 close to junction two.
"Emergency services attended and a man has sadly been pronounced dead at the scene.
"The motorway is currently closed and officers are keeping an open mind about the circumstances surrounding the man's death whilst enquiries continue."
