An investigation has been launched after a man pushed a woman into a canal in Manchester.

The 46-year-old woman was jogging by the footpath near Rochdale Canal at 5.50pm on Tuesday October 26 when she was attacked by the assailant.

The attacker, described as a white male who is 5 ft 9 inches tall, grabbed hold of the victim before hurling her into the water.

Following the altercation, he is believed to have fled the scene towards Gorrels Way.

The woman did not suffer any injuries but police say the “terrifying” incident has left her feeling “violated and scared”.

No arrests have been made and officers are carrying out extra patrols in the area as the search for the man continues.

Detective Constable Chris Davies said: “This was a terrifying experience for the woman, who was left feeling violated and scared.

“We will absolutely not tolerate this behaviour in Greater Manchester and are following all available lines of enquiry to locate the offender as soon as possible.

“Extra patrols will be present in the area whilst enquiries are ongoing. If you have any concerns of questions please feel free to speak to our officers.”
