Investigation launched after man is stabbed following 'disagreement' in Sunderland

Detectives in Sunderland have launched an investigation after a man was stabbed following a "disagreement".

Shortly after 7.15pm on Sunday, police were alerted by the ambulance service to an incident at an address on Roker Avenue.

Officers attended the scene and found a 37-year-old man with injuries to his side which they say were "consistent with a stabbing".

He was taken to hospital and his injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

The incident is thought to have followed a disagreement between a number of individuals who were all known to each other, police said.

They are now appealing for witnesses to the disturbance, which is believed to have started outside the address and continued inside, to come forward.

Officers also want to hear from anyone who was passing through the area at the time to check their dashcam footage.

Detective Sergeant Gaye Martin, of Northumbria Police, said: “This is clearly a serious incident that has resulted in a man being taken to hospital with suspected stab wounds.

“We are determined to find out the circumstances surrounding the assault and ultimately ensure anyone responsible is brought to justice.

“We believe a disturbance has started initially outside the address between a group of individuals, and we are now asking anyone who was walking down the road or passing in a vehicle to get in touch.

“Your information, no matter how insignificant you feel it may be, could prove the crucial link in our ongoing investigation.”

Officers remain in the area to carry out enquiries and offer any reassurance to residents.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Northumbria Police via the ‘Tell Us Something’ page of their website or by calling 101 quoting log 916 011120.
