The Independent Police Complaints Commission has launched an investigation into the death of a man in custody at a West London police station on Friday.
The man, described as white and in his 50s, died at Southall police station on Friday. The man - who has not yet been named - was arrested in the Acton area on Thursday morning.
According to the IPCC, staff became concerned about the man’s condition during a routine check at approximately 6am.
Medical assistance was provided by police and the ambulance service when the man’s condition quickly deteriorated, however the man was pronounced dead at approximately 7:30am.
According to an IPCC spokesperon, an independent investigation into the man’s death was declared at 8.30am.
Efforts were being made to contact the man’s family on Friday to inform them of his death and a post mortem will be conducted in the coming days.
IPCC associate commissioner Tom Milsom said: “My thoughts are with the family and friends of the man and all those affected by his death.
“The investigation, which is in its very early stages, will look at the full circumstances surrounding this incident.”
