Investigation launched after Frenchay car fire spreads to elderly woman's bungalow

Police are appealing for witnesses who saw anyone "acting suspiciously" following a Frenchay fire which destroyed car and spread to nearby homes being treated as arson.

The car, parked in Lynton Way in Frenchay, was set alight just after 3am yesterday morning (March 26).

The fire quickly spread to the garden fence, greenhouse and shed in the garden of a nearby home, and also damaged the fascia of the bungalow.

Two fire crews from Kingswood Fire Station were called to the scene and two firefighters tackled the fire using hose reels.

Police and fire investigators have confirmed they are treating the incident as an arson attack.

Avon and Somerset Police are now appealing for witnesses to come forward who may help their enquiries.

A police spokesperson said: "We’re appealing for your help following a car fire in the Frenchay area. 

"The fire was reported shortly after 3am in Lynton Way. The car – an Audi - was set alight and the fire spread to a nearby fence of a property. 

"The car was burned out in the incident and the fire destroyed the fence and garden, causing heat damage to the bungalow.

"The elderly female occupant was not injured in the incident. 

"We are keen to hear from anyone who was in the area at the fire who may have been someone acting suspiciously."
