Investigation launched after crane cracks glass windows at Old Trafford football ground

An investigation has been launched after a crane cracked two glass windows at Old Trafford football ground. Pictures show the window visibly damaged beside a industrial crane on Monday afternoon (September 26).

The Manchester Evening News understands that a crane, which had been removing rugby league branding, had cracked two glass window at the front of the stadium.

Nobody was injured in the incident, with an investigation reportedly underway to establish the cause. The two windows on the East Stand were cracked by the crane.

One eyewitness, who contacted the M.E.N said: "The main boom on the crane fitting visuals at Manchester United has gone through two windows. I have just driven past and seen it at Old Trafford."

Two large signs advertising the Betfred Superleague were hung up on either sides of the glass windows and entrance doorways. It is thought the crane hit the windows and smashed them as they were being removed.

Pictures show the cracked glass, which had not been completely smashed through as eyewitnesses first suggested.
