Investigation launched after cash and cigarettes stolen in robbery at Whitefield newsagents

Thieves targeted a Whitefield newsagents in broad daylight - stealing cash and cigarettes.

Police are now appealing for more information after the raid at Victoria News on Victoria Square, which happened at around 11.45am yesterday (Tuesday, November 10).

Nobody was injured and the shop was able to reopen the following day but a significant quantity of cash, as well as cigarettes from behind the counter, was snatched during the raid.

CCTV footage from the robbery has been handed to the police and investigations into the incident are ongoing, a spokesman for GMP said.

Officers have since called on anyone who may have seen what happened to come forward.

In a statement, the force said: “At around 11.45am on Tuesday 10 November 2020, police were called to reports of a robbery at a newsagents on Victoria Square, Whitefield.

“No-one was injured and a quantity of cigarettes and money was stolen.

“Enquiries are ongoing.”

Anyone with information should call police on 101 quoting incident number 1043 of 10/11/2020.
