Investigation launched after car is torched in suspected arson attack in Heaton

An investigation has been launched after a car was set on fire in Newcastle.

Emergency services were called to Jesmond Vale Lane in Heaton at around 10pm on Tuesday.

Northumbria Police confirmed they were treating the incident as arson.

A spokesperson for the force said: “Shortly after 10pm yesterday (Tuesday) we received a report that a car was on fire on were on fire on Jesmond Vale Lane, Heaton.

“Emergency services attended and the fire was extinguished. Nobody was injured.

“An investigation has been launched into the cause of the fire, which police are currently treating as suspected arson.

"Anyone with information is asked to call 101 quoting log 916 310320.”

A spokeswoman for Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service added: “We received a report of a car fire at 9.21pm and crews from Newcastle Central and Byker arrived to find the car well alight.

"Thankfully no one was hurt, but all deliberate fires put our communities at risk because our crews can’t be in two places at once. Attending a deliberate fire could affect our ability to respond to another incident where lives are at risk.

"We encourage anyone with information about this incident to contact the police.”
