An investigation has been launched after a man's body was found on rocks.
Police were called at around 11.35am on Wednesday after the man was spotted below Old Hartley Caravan Site, between Whitley Bay and Seaton Sluice .
Officers and volunteer rescue crews attended the scene where they found the body of a man.
An investigation has now been launched to identify the deceased and trace his family.
A Northumbria Police spokeswoman said: "Shortly after 11.35am today police received a report of concern for a man at Old Hartley Caravan Site in Whitley Bay, on the rocks below.
"Officers attended and found the body of a man.
"An investigation has been launched and enquiries are ongoing to identify the man and trace his next of kin."
