Nobody was injured and the first ambulance crew called to the incident were able to treat the patient without the need for backup.

A North East Ambulance Service spokesman said: "We had a paramedic crew on route to an emergency at a private address when they collided with a wall.

"Fortunately the crew were unhurt. We called the police to report the incident and arranged for the vehicle to be recovered to our depot in Sunderland for repair.

"An ambulance officer was dispatched to check on the wellbeing of the crew and begin an investigation into the collision.

"A second paramedic crew was the first to arrive at the scene of the incident and were able to treat the patient without the need for the backup originally being provided by this ambulance."
