Police are continuing to investigate the death of a woman after her body was found dumped in regional Victoria.

Remains were discovered on Mount Pollock Rd in the town of Buckley, near Winchelsea, 40km west Geelong, about noon on Saturday.

Footage of the area shows detectives and police near a wheelie bin in bushes on the side of the road, believed to be the crime scene.

Victoria Police would not confirm the woman's identity on Monday morning or exactly where her remains were found.

Investigators believe the offender knew the victim and may have fled overseas.

"We appreciate the interest in the investigation into the death of a woman, yet to be formally identified, who was located deceased in Buckley on 9 March," a police statement read.

"We have no further updates at this stage."

Police previously confirmed the death is being treated as suspicious.
