Scotland Yard has dropped an investigation into rape allegations against the Conservative MP Mark Pritchard due to insufficient evidence.
The Tory MP for The Wrekin, in east Shropshire, was arrested on 2 December after voluntarily attending a central London police station.
Pritchard, 48, answered bail on Tuesday morning and was told that he would face no further action.
A Metropolitan police spokeswoman declined to name Pritchard, but said: “A 48-year-old man voluntarily attended a north London police station on Tuesday, 2 December 2014 where he was arrested, following an allegation of rape in central London.
“He returned on bail on Tuesday, 6 January 2015, where he was informed that he will face no further action as there is insufficient evidence.”
Pritchard is due to give a statement outside St Stephen’s entrance of the Palace of Westminster later on Tuesday.
