Investigation into death of little boy found dead at home continues as police release name

An investigation into the death of a five-year-old boy found dead at home on New Year's Eve is continuing as detectives release his name.

Dylan Scanlon was found dead at a property on Elm Road, in Limeside, Oldham, at around 6.20pm on Friday evening (December 31).

A woman in her 30s has been detained under the Mental Health Act.

The case has been referred to Greater Manchester Police's Professional Standards Branch and the Independent Office for Police Conduct.

Dylan's dad has since paid a heartbreaking tribute to his ‘best friend’.

In an emotional post on Facebook, Gary Keenan wrote: “To my Dylan, I love you more than everything in this world.

Today Greater Manchester Police has formally named Dylan as the investigation into his death continues.

Detective Chief Inspector Alicia Smith, of GMP's Major Incident Team, said: "Our thoughts are with the family at this difficult time and they are being supported by specialist officers.

"An investigation by a dedicated team into Dylan's death is ongoing and the family is being kept fully informed."

An online fundraising page has been set up to raise money for Dylan's family.

Toys, balloons, candles and floral tributes have also been left close to the scene in Elm Road.

Among the items left at the scene are several cuddly toys and teddy bears.

The incident has been referred to GMP's Professional Standards Branch and the Independent Office for Police Conduct.
