Investigation continues one week after man suffers serious head injuries in Easington Lane assault

Police are continuing to investigate the serious assault of a 25-year-old man in an Easington Lane property one week on.

Officers were called to Girven Terrace, Easington Lane, last Wednesday and found a man with serious but non-life-threatening head injuries inside the property.

Northumbria Police increased patrols in the area but are reassured residents there was no wider risk to the public.

A spokesman for the force said no arrests have been made and inquiries continue.

He said: "Officers attended the scene where they found a 25-year-old man with serious but non-life-threatening head injuries.

"Enquiries into this incident are ongoing but the victim and offender are believed to be known to each other, with no wider risk to the public.

"Extra patrols are being carried out to offer community reassurance and anyone with concerns should approach an officer.

"Anyone with information about this incident is asked to get in touch using the Tell us Something page on our website contact, quoting log 487 080420."
