
The investigation continues into a Magoffin County school bus crash. Several children and the bus driver remain hospitalized.
18 students ranging from elementary, middle, and high school suffered injuries Monday morning when the school bus exited Route 40 and crashed down an embankment.
Magoffin Schools Superintendent Chris Meadows said 11 students have been treated and released. Seven students and the bus driver are receiving hospital care. Meadows was scheduled to visit students at a West Virginia hospital and the University of Kentucky Hospital Tuesday.
Regarding bus safety measures, State Education Department Spokesperson Toni Tatman said seatbelts are currently an option for any new school bus purchased by school districts. In addition, some of the newer buses can have lap and shoulder belts retrofitted.
