May 03--Authorities Tuesday were continuing to investigate the deaths of two people who died after they were struck by Metra commuter trains in separate incidents on Monday morning.
The first incident occurred at 6:40 a.m. in Bartlett when a man in his 90s walked across a pedestrian crosswalk near the station and was hit by a train, according to Metra spokeswoman Meg Reile. She said warning signals were operating.
The Cook County medical examiner's office had not released information about the man's death as of Tuesday afternoon.
Authorities are seeking to identify a woman who died when she was struck about 11:15 a.m. by a Metra train near the station in Villa Park. Witnesses told authorities the woman was walking on the tracks when she was struck.
An examination performed Tuesday by the DuPage County coroner's office found the woman appeared to have died from massive traumatic injuries. The final cause and manner will be determined once toxicology findings are reviewed, according to the coroner's office.
The subject is described as white, approximately 40 to 50 years of age, with very short dark hair, according to the coroner's office. She was dressed in a black/sliver top, black leather jacket, black pants, black socks and black shoes.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Det. Bill Lyons of the Villa Park Police Department at 630-592-6117 or the DuPage County coroner's office at 630-407-2600.
