Investigation closed after girl, 15, assaulted in viral video in Cullercoats

A schoolgirl suffered "minor injuries" in a beach brawl which was filmed and posted on Facebook.

Around 40,000 people have so far watched the widely-shared clip of the incident on the beach in Cullercoats.

It showed a group of females clashing in front of a large group of youths standing on the sand.

The footage seemingly shows one girl dragged to the ground before being assaulted by a group of females.

Police on patrol by the coast spoke to the victim.

However, it is understood none of those involved supported a prosecution.

"Shortly before 6pm July 31, police received a report of assault at Cullercoats Bay, North Tyneside," confirmed a Northumbria Police spokesperson.

"It was reported that a 15-year-old girl had been assaulted resulting in minor injuries.

"Enquiries have been carried out and the victim spoken to.

"The investigation has now been finalised."
