Investigation after Pieminister diner almost choked on plastic found in dish

A Pieminister diner almost choked on plastic found in her dish. A shocked man took to social media after the alarming incident, and now the Bristol-based company plans to launch an investigation.

Luke Sartain, whose wife found the object in her meal, shared an image of the piece of plastic on Twitter, saying: “Hi @pieminister my wife just choked on this ‘purple plastic’ in her Wild Shroom Pie. Not sure what type of mushroom this is if you can help me identify?”

It appeared to have black marks in a line around the middle, which Luke suggested could be some form of coding or lettering’. In the thread, he said: "Pieminister it would appear it has some coding/words/letters on it. Very exciting, the good news is my wife survived also.”

Luke seemed to see the lighter side of the incident, sharing memes about the whole situation. During one of these, he proposed the coding could be the start to ‘a quest to return the purple ring..’

The restaurant chain now plans to launch a full investigation into the incident.

Head of Press for Pieminister, Romany Simon said: “Our technical team have scrutinised the photograph and the item is not something that anyone in our kitchens recognise as the hard plastic across our kitchen facility in Brentry is royal blue. We would like to get the item on site as soon as possible so we can conduct a full investigation.”

Stringent daily tests are taken out at the kitchen facility where the pies are made, with all equipment ‘inspected’ for damage every morning before production starts.

Romany added: “We take food safety extremely seriously (and hold high BRCGS food safety standards) at our kitchens in Brentry. This extends to preventing foreign body contamination of our pies. These types of incidents are extremely rare due to our stringent controls and procedures.”
