Investigation after man was attacked and robbed on the High Level Bridge

Police are investigating after a man was attacked on the High Level Bridge in Newcastle.

Officers were called to the scene in the early hours of the morning after it was reported that a man had been robbed while walking across the east side of the bridge, towards Gateshead.

Between 3.30am and 4.15am on Saturday, August 24, it is believed two males crossed the road and ran towards the 26-year-old victim before knocking him to the ground and repeatedly punching and kicking him.

The suspects have then stolen his mobile phone and money before leaving the scene and heading towards Gateshead, police say.

A spokesperson for Northumbria Police said: "Officers are keen to speak with anyone who might have witnessed the incident, and would like to locate a member of the public they believe assisted the injured victim shortly after the attack.

"Anyone with information is asked to contact police by calling 101 or emailing  7608@northumbria.pnn.police.uk  quoting reference 909 240819."
