Inverness have denied allegations that striker Nikolay Todorov committed 'excessive misconduct' in their win over Raith Rovers last month - claiming the Bulgarian was subjected to 'racist abuse' during the game.
Neil McCann's side edged to a 1-0 win in the Championship clash on March 16 but the football was overshadowed by a series of unsavoury incidents on and off the ball.
Raith's Murray Davidson was sent off 11 minutes in for a reckless challenge on Todorov and was shown a second red moments later after he grabbed an Inverness player by the throat.
He was hit with a two-match ban for each red card, and is being investigated for a further incident where he is alleged to have made a discriminatory comment towards Todorov.
But Todorov has also been reported to the SFA for misconduct and Inverness issued a statement on Tuesday defending their player.
It reads: “Today Inverness Caledonian Thistle FC player Nikolay Todorov was issued a Notice of Complaint by the SFA. This relates to an allegation that disciplinary rule 202 was breached i.e. 'No player shall commit excessive misconduct at a match.'
"It is alleged that the breach took place at a Scottish Championship match on the 16th March 2021, when Inverness Caledonian Thistle FC played Raith Rovers FC.
"We will robustly defend our player from this allegation. Nikolay’s conduct on the 16th March was entirely exemplary despite the extreme provocation, racist abuse and violence he was subjected to. We are unable at this stage to comment further.”
The player's lawyer Aamer Anwar went on: “Nikolay Todorov vehemently denies that he is guilty of any misconduct. He sees the allegations as spurious and believes the facts will speak for themselves at a full hearing in due course."
