Invergowrie Primary School feeder proposal delayed until 2021

A review decision on feeder schools to Dundee’s Harris Academy, which will have an impact on Invergowrie Primary School, has been pushed back to January due to the coronavirus.

Dundee City Council announced a review of all Harris feeder schools last year and, if the proposal goes ahead, it would mean children from Invergowrie Primary could no longer attend the Dundee secondary school.

Invergowrie pupils would instead need to endure a potential 40-mile round bus journey to a Perth secondary school as a result.

However, due to the impact from the pandemic, the decision will now be taken in January instead.

Commenting, Carse of Gowrie councillor Angus Forbes, who is opposed to removing Invergowrie from the catchment , said: “I fully understand the reasons behind the delay and I am grateful to Councillor Hunter, Dundee City Council education convener, for keeping me appraised of the situation.

“Whilst this gives the community extra time to campaign against the proposal, it does also just lengthen the period of uncertainty.

“The sad thing is that this decision will be taken by people who are not elected by the parents of the children who will be affected and I would urge politicians in Dundee of all political colours to find a way to continue to allow Invergowrie children to attend Harris.

“As a former Harris pupil myself, I know first hand the benefits that children from Invergowrie bring to the school. I met some of my best friends from Invergowrie when I was at Harris.”
