Intu Derby reopens after bomb scare closes shopping centre for eight hours

Intu Derby has reopened after it was evacuated and closed for eight hours due to a bomb scare.

On Friday night, members of the public were asked to avoid the area as an Explosive Ordnance Disposal team were called to the shopping centre.

Police said it would remain closed overnight following a report a suspicious package was found earlier in the evening.

According to Derbyshire Live, the shopping centre reopened around eight hours later at around 3am.

At 7.30am on Saturday, Intu Derby tweeted to say it would be opening as normal.

It said: "Intu Derby will open as normal today.

"We’d like to say sorry to anyone who had their visit disrupted last night and thank them for their co-operation."

The latest update from Derbyshire Police last night said: "Intu Derby will remain closed overnight following a report that a suspicious package had been found earlier this evening.

"The Explosive Ordinance Disposal are in attendance and enquiries continue. Please avoid the area. A further update will be issued tomorrow, once available."

Police have been approached for further information.
