'Intoxicated' driver trapped in mangled wreck of car after M62 crash

An 'intoxicated' driver had to be freed from an upside down car after a dramatic crash on the M62 near Leeds.

The accident happened near the junction 30 exit on the eastbound carriageway at around 11pm yesterday.

The white Peugeot flipped onto its roof when the driver lost control. It ended up coming to a rest on the grass divider between the slip road and the main carriageway.

A spokesperson for West Yorkshire Police's Roads Policing Unit described the accident as a, "single vehicle collision which could have resulted in serious injuries or worse."

They added: "Instead we have a rather intoxicated driver.

"Sorry for those who were stuck in the closure."

All three lanes of the main motorway were closed temporarily and the exit slip road at junction 30 for Oulton was shut for around three hours from just after 11pm.

Some members of the public voiced their annoyance on Twitter.

Darren Woodard said: "Bill them not only for the emergency services but also for the closure of the motorway. Will make them think twice about their actions."
