Into Film Festival Belfast 2019 launches with more than 80 FREE screenings and events

Thousands of young people from schools and film clubs across Northern Ireland will be given access to more than 80 screenings at this year’s Into Film Festival.

The world’s largest free film festival, which takes place from November 6-22, will launch this year with the new climate change documentary 2040 in the Queen’s Film Theatre and Newcastle Community Cinema.

The first film aimed at young audiences to offer a hopeful response to youth ‘eco-anxiety’ will play simultaneously at cinemas across the UK and will include support from celebrity guests and a network of Greenpeace speakers. The screenings are being supported by Greenpeace and Unicef.

Sean Kelly of Into Film in Northern Ireland said it was appropriate that the opening film addressed the issue of Climate Change.

“This is a hugely important issue for young people and we have seen the impact that young eco-campaigners such as Greta Thunberg have had on the global debate on climate change. The packed programme includes many other films designed to stimulate learning and also to entertain.”

This year's festival also features a host of brilliant free events for the whole family including autism friendly screenings.

Some highlights include:

  • The Grinch (Autism Friendly), Odeon Belfast, November 8
  • The Angry Birds Movie 2, Odeon Belfast, November 15
  • Mary Poppins (Autism Friendly), Odeon Belfast, November 6
  • Screening & Talk: The Secret Life of Pets 2 with Wee Critters, Movie House Dublin Road, November 19
  • Dora & The Lost City of Gold, Movie House Cityside, November 21
  • The Gruffalo & Zog (Autism Friendly), Island Arts Centre, November 6
