Interview: Bill Rancic ready to run Chicago Marathon for third time

Oct. 02--Bill Rancic said his wife Giuliana Rancic is ashamed of the way he has been eating as of late. He has been known to order multiple entrees while dining at RPM Italian -- the upscale Italian restaurant they co-own -- and the "Fashion Police" co-host is disgusted by it.

In Bill Rancic's defense, he is eating with a purpose. The former "Apprentice" winner and Carl Sandburg High School alum is running the Bank of America Chicago Marathon Oct. 11 and is carb-loading.

"During the whole training process, we'll come in (to RPM Italian) and people will be scared by my orders," said Rancic, 44, over the phone Thursday. "Giuliana is so embarrassed, like 'Three orders of pasta?' It's one of the benefits of training for a marathon."

This will be Rancic's fourth time running a marathon and third time running the Chicago Marathon. Rancic's goal is to run a marathon in his 20s, 30s, 40s and, if all goes well, 50s. He said he ran his first in 1999 with only 10 weeks of training after his roommate at the time bet him he couldn't do it (Rancic won the bet but lost a toe nail).

The former roommates will reunited to run the upcoming marathon along with Rancic's cousin. And this time Rancic has been training properly with a trainer provided by Nike.

"It's a great way to test yourself and push yourself to the limits," Rancic said. " It's more mental than anything else. I find that when I'm training for these, every other aspect of my life becomes more focused."

Rancic said his personal best time is a little over four hours. His goal is to run the upcoming marathon in under four hours. Besides his cousin and former roommate, Rancic will be joined by his wife on the course -- well, for the first few miles.

"Initially, she was like 'Let's do it,'" Rancic said. "Then she was like 'I don't know if I can do it.' She renegotiated with me and now she will run the first five miles with me. She did a half marathon a few years ago, but time got away and she had some things going on. Maybe this will motivate her to commit next year."
