PHUKET: A Swedish woman wanted under an Interpol Red Notice for fraud was arrested after hiding in Thailand while evading prosecution over a call centre scam that caused losses exceeding 60 million baht, police said.

Immigration officers arrested the suspect, identified as Felicia, in Wichit district on Tuesday after receiving intelligence that a foreign fugitive was living in the province.

Police said she was wanted under an Interpol Red Notice on public fraud charges.

She joined more than 14 accomplices in early 2022 to operate a call centre gang posing as bank and finance company staff, deceiving victims into transferring money in 163 transactions worth more than 60 million baht.

She entered Thailand on a tourist visa in January. Her permission to remain has been revoked, and she will be deported to Sweden to face charges, police said.
