Full-time! Internazionale 0-0 Juventus
Oh well. That happened. A point a piece in a game packed full of fouls and yellow cards. Thanks for reading. Bye!
90 min + 2: Instead of putting the free-kick in to the box, Pogba passes it to Cuadrado on the right but it’s too long and they have to come back. On the opposite side Bonucci sends a pass from deep towards Dybala but Handanovic comes out to collect.
90 min +1: Miranda commits a foul on Mandzukic about 30 yards out and Juve will throw men forward but not before Mancini brings on Kondogbia and Palacio are on for Jovetic and Medel.
90 min: There will be three minutes added on.
89 min: … that is cleared. In the second phase a cross comes in from the left towards Chiellini who tries an overhead kick but cannot connect properly with his left. That would have been remarkable.
89 min: Cuadrado makes ground on the right again and with plenty of options cannot find the right pass, though he wins a corner.
88 min: Cuadrado delivers a peach of a cross from the right to Mandzukic but he makes a mess of his attempt at the back-post. That’s a let off for Inter.
87 min: No sign of Jovetic this time. Perisic takes it and while he gets it over the wall the shot also heads over the bar.
86 min: Inter have another free-kick in a dangerous position. Brozovic runs towards goal. Chiellini sticks a leg out but the Inter midfielder dives over it and cons the referee in to giving the foul and giving another yellow card.
85 min: Jovetic takes and it comes back off the wall. Disappointing from him.
84 min: Icardi is taken down by Khedira and this is a big, big chance with a free-kick for Jovetic or Perisic 25 yards from goal. Juve are setting up a five-man wall.
82 min: Cuadrado dances down the right but just before he is about to cross he takes a heavy touch and loses possession.
80 min: Barzagli has been immense this evening. He cuts out another Icardi cross from the right, this one towards Perisic at the back post.
78 min: Dybala replaces the ineffective and frustrating Zaza.
77 min: Italian TV directors sure love cutting to the crowd to show pictures of attractive supporters!
76 min: Perisic has a long range effort blocked by Chiellini after Brozovic’s cross from the right is overhit.
74 min: In saying that, Inter have defended well for large spells. It’s just a lack of potency up top apart from Jovetic.
70 min: Inter have been so subdued since half-time and at the moment you sense if one team are to break the deadlock it is the visitors from Turin.
67 min: Khedira hits a post! And he really should have found the net. Morata takes down a cross and lays it off to Juve’s other former Real Madrid player but his scuffed shot from eight yards comes back off Handanovic’s right upright.
64 min: Mancini is the first to shuffle his pack. Guarin is replaced by Melo, earning loud roars of approval from the home support.
61 min: Inter now enjoying a sustained period of pressure but Bonucci finally intercepts and Morata breaks on the right. He feeds Cuadrado with Pogba and Zaza also looking for the ball but Cuadrado cannot continue the move, leaving two of his team-mates furious.
60 min: Now Pogba has a long-range punt having got loose from Medel for the first time. It’s poorly executed, mind, and Handanovic saves well.
59 min: Jovetic has been the best player on the pitch so far here. He has another shot from range and it bounces hazardously in front of Buffon but the goalkeeper is down well to save.
55 min: Juve continue to boss possession but that Cuadrado attempt aside they have not had a sight of Handanovic’s goal.
51 min: Some respite for Inter as Barzagli concedes a corner. Jovetic takes it but it’s missed by everybody and runs across the area and out for a goal-kick.
50 min: Only five minutes in but Juve have dominated this second half. Now they enjoy a calm and collected spell of possession. Inter are sitting back with two banks of four.
47 min: Cuadrado shoots at Handanovic who saves brilliantly. The corner produces another corner and the second is headed clear by Miranda. But only as far as Cuadrado – his cross back in comes back to him. This time he cuts in a has a go from the edge of the area but on his weaker foot hits well over.
Peep-peep!
46 min: Inter restart. I’m sure there will be a goal.
It’s a money game, alright …
There are 79,154 spectators at the Meazza for #InterJuventus tonight, that's a new @SerieA_TIM gate receipts record of €3,740,051 #FCIM

Half-time! Internazionale 0-0 Juventus
45 min: Cuadrado is attacking down the right and about to cross but the referee blows his whistle bang on 45 minutes. No added time despite all the fouls and yellow cards. It’s been frantic but lacking quality in the #POMOs.
44 min: And now at the other end Zaza, fed by Pogba, is tackled by Murillo just as the Juve striker was about to strike for goal.
43 min: Brozovic sends a long floater over the Juventus defence. Icardi is running on to it but Barzagli is there again to win possession and deny the Inter attacker a one-on-one chance.
40 min: Jesus is in nose bleed territory and about to send a cross in from the left but Barzagli comes across to nick possession impressively.
39 min: Pogba is waltzing about midfield without ever looking like he wants to get on the ball. He had an ankle problem leading up to this game – is it hindering him?
33 min: Another free-kick for Inter. Jovetic to have a go again. This time he drives it low. Again it gets past the wall but curls too much and goes across the goal and harmlessly for a goal-kick.
30 min: Evra and Pogba exchange passes and the former sends a low cross in from the left-sided end line and wins a corner. It’s delivered poorly by Khedira and hacked away.
29 min: Brozoviccccccc … oof. A corner is taken short and the Inter midfielder shoots from a near-impossible angle on the left of the area. He tries to loop it over Buffon but the veteran goalkeeper produces an amazing finger-tip save, deflecting the ball on to the crossbar. Stunning!
28 min: Jovetic crosses to Icardi but he is disrupted by Evra and Buffon comes out to collect.
26 min: Jovetic is everywhere at the moment. He makes a good run across the Juve defence and latches on to Murillo’s through ball. He is about to pull the trigger but Chiellini gets in the way to make a terrific goal-saving block.
Hot, hot Hudson chat II
@alansmith90 Earlier on Rockin' Ray referred to a free kick as a "different kettle of sharks". No, me neither.

24 min: Then Khedira decides he has had enough and passes forward. It’s loose and Medel cleans up. Jovetic breaks and a retreating Morata hauls him down. On the basis of the previous yellows that should be a fifth. When the free is taken it’s given to Brozovic on the left and sent towards Perisic. He slips at the near stick and the ball comes off Chiellini’s hand but it’s accidental and play correctly continues.
23 min: Juve enjoy a prolonged spell of possession but they are only going sideways. Inter are sitting back and letting their hosts have it.
21 min: We are already in double figures with fouls! Perisic combines well with Jovetic before racing down the left flank. He sends in a poor cross, though.
Hot, hot Hudson chat …
I wish Ray Hudson had an Edward Scissorhands approach to commentary (viz. mute),” writes in Lou Roper.
20 min: Khedira feeds Zaza in a great position in the D but he makes a mess of his first touch and Inter clear with ease.
An email from JR in Illinois …
Hey Alan,
Ray Hudson has just described this game as having an “Edward Scissorhands type of combativeness”.
I can’t help but wonder what that could mean. Also, because I never saw “Edward Scissorhands”, I wonder if people who have seen it know what that means.
Any ideas?
18 min: Pogba, that wayward shot aside, has been almost anonymous so far.
16 min: A fourth yellow card, the third for Juventus. This one is for Zaza, whose high boot on Melo has Paolo Valeri reaching for his pocket again.
14 min: Morata lays the ball off to Pogba but the France midfielder strikes a shocker high and wide.
12 min: Another yellow card! Khedira blatantly rugby tackles Jovetic and the former Manchester City player will have another go from the free-kick. This one is in front of goal but a little further out. When it comes to him shooting he makes it past the wall but can’t find the target, the ball sailing to the right of Buffon and well wide.
11 min: Cuadrado takes down Jovetic 30.1 metres from goal a bit to the left, clipping the Inter player’s right ankle. Jovetic is eyeing up a shot but he could cross …actually, it’s neither and he floats a poor attempt straight into the hands of Buffon.
10 min: A long ball forward reaches Zaza, who gets behind and between Miranda and Murillo. His execution is awful, though, and shoots wildly wide.
8 min: And now Melo is booked for bringing down Cuadrado. The Inter player plays the ball but mistimes slightly and his studs land on the Juve player’s toes. It’s gonna be a long evening for Melo and Marchisio now.
6 min: Juve enjoy some decent pressure but when it breaks down Marchisio hauls down Icardi in the Inter half as the Inter player tries to begin a counterattack. That’s the first yellow card!
4 min: Now Juve break and Cuadrado has shot from the edge of the area. Handanovic is down to save well. The subsequent corner is taken short to Cuadrado. He dances in from the right but is surrounded by three Inter shirts.
3 min: First corner goes to Inter – Jovetic winning it off Chiellini on the right. It’s taken towards Melo but overhit and Inter must go again. Jovetic tries to send a disguised pass towards Icardi but it is also overhit.
2 min: Inter stroke it around the back until Murillo finds himself in some trouble. He sends a poor pass back to Handanovic and he nervously hooks it out for a throw-in. Juventus appear hungry to close down the Inter defence immediately.
Game on!
1 min: Juventus get us going, playing from left to right as we watch it. And the sold out San Siro is deafening.
Here come the teams!
The cast!
Internazionale: Handanovic; Santon, Miranda, Murillo, Jesus; Medel, Melo, Brozovic; Perisic, Jovetic, Icardi. Subs: Carrizo, Berni, Kondogbia, Palacio, Biabiany, Telles, Guarin, Montoya, Ranocchia, Gnoukouri, D’Ambrosio, Nagatomo, Manaj.
Juventus: Buffon; Barzagli, Bonucci, Chiellini; Cuadrado, Khedira, Marchisio, Pogba, Evra; Zaza, Morata. Subs: Neto, Audero, Hernanes, Alex Sandro, Mandzukic, Lemina, Padoin, Dybala, Asamoah, Rugani, Sturaro, Pereyra.
Buon giorno and welcome to live coverage of the 226th Derby d’Italia, where Internazionale will be looking for a victory that would take them back on top of Serie A. Victory for Juventus, the champions, on the other hand would see them climb in to the top half of the table. Stalemate would see both sides stay put in third and 14th respectively.
We might only be approaching the conclusion of the eighth round of fixtures but the table has taken on quite a funny complexion with the Old Lady so low alongside Inter’s city neighbours Milan. Yet Maxi Allegri’s team have impressed in the Champions League and absolutely nobody would be surprised if they embark on a lengthy winning run.
It has been seven games since Inter last won this fixture and the overall record reads Juventus 101, Inter 69 and 55 draws.
The hosts will definitely be without Nemanja Vidic and Felipe Melo is a major doubt. Juve have concerns over the fitness of Paul Pogba, Martin Caceres and Alvaro Morata after they returned with various minor issues during the international break, while Roberto Pereyra and Stephan Lichtsteiner are confirmed absentees.
Kick-off is 60 minutes from now and team news will be along shortly.
In the meantime, here’s the latest instalment from Guardian Football Passport on Inter. It’s an enjoyable watch – I promise!
